I did my residency here. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't go anywhere else. The training here is excellent. The attendings are a major part of why this place is so good. They care about the residents and it shows. At the end of your shift you actually feel like you've made a difference in people's lives. The food in the cafeteria is also pretty good... almost too good... watch your belt line while training here.

General

The program provides excellent training for the residents coming through here. I truly believe that everyone who graduates this program is well prepared for a career in emergency medicine. The residents perform many procedures (intubations, a-lines, central lines, paracentesis). From what I've heard from residents, other procedures like LPs, chest tubes, births can be more difficult to come by.

Food

The cafeteria offers a basic variety of options. It is open 24/7 but on off hours options are limited. Grill offers basic food options (burgers, omelets, chicken fingers, etc). I believe the residents get a food stipend.

The Environment

The hospital is a county facility and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the area. We see a lot of pathology and a fair amount of psych and drugs. There is a dedicated (not locked) psych evaluation area. Not as much alcohol related visits as I thought there would be in Las Vegas. There is always a heavy police presence in the ER as the jail brings patients here for clearance. Our security team is great and always very quick to respond.

Would recommend this program.
